Keep reading if you’re not as fit as you want to be.
I'm in decent shape for a guy who just turned 55, but I’ve put on more weight than I would like, and now I’m launching an all-out war on my current state of fitness.
The growing readership and increased comments on recent posts have made me realize I am not alone.
Many of us are former military personnel, former athletes, or just regular folks who realize that we have allowed life, injuries, and a million other excuses to erode our health and fitness slowly.
Fuck that.
We’re putting together science, technology, and hard-core discipline to get in the best shape of our lives.
Join us and bring some friends. There will be rucking involved.
I was recently helping a group work through a strategic planning session, and I suggested using the S.W.O.T. framework, which stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.
We evaluated the courses of action they proposed through the four lenses.
As we were doing this, it suddenly became clear to me that this strategic management tool could be useful for all of us as we focus on achieving our fitness and performance goals.
As I work to get back in the best shape of my life, I know that discipline is a strength. I have developed it over a lifetime, and I’m comfortable undertaking challenges that require discipline.
At present, my biggest weakness is my torn rotator cuff and the pending surgery.
The greatest opportunity I intend to capitalize on is this group. You guys have been great, and knowing that over a thousand people who presumably are pursuing the same goal of self-improvement are reading this every week is a huge motivator. Thanks!
The biggest looming threat is the upcoming holiday season and the opportunities to overindulge that it provides. While I did say that discipline is a strength, I also love cookies.
Just as in the military, the SWOT analysis can help us find opportunities to leverage our strengths against our weaknesses and use them to mitigate threats while recognizing and exploiting opportunities that we may have not recognized had we not been looking for them.
We can not address an unrecognized weakness. However, once identified, you have the opportunity to work on it and begin to turn it into a strength.
Until next week, Ruck the fuck up.
I’m officially a huge fan of the Body Pod. I’m not sure how long they will be on sale, but if you are looking for a Christmas present for yourself to help you achieve your goals, check it out.
We all have a few friends who need to Ruck the Fuck Up. Share this with them.
I’m shooting for 1,000 reviews on Amazon. Right now, we are at 65.
If you have read Tough Rugged Bastards, I would appreciate an honest review. Thanks!
